Meet Your Counsellor

Trudy Cahill

Dip. Couns. | Dip. Disability
Counsellor | Trauma, Neurodiversity & Family Support

Compassionate, practical counselling for individuals, parents, carers and families.

Life can become overwhelming for many different reasons. Sometimes it is the result of trauma or loss. Sometimes relationships or family life have become difficult. Other times, people simply reach a point where they no longer know how to keep managing everything on their own.

I work with people navigating trauma, neurodivergence, emotional overwhelm, parenting challenges, complex family dynamics, relationship difficulties, grief and significant life changes.

When Life Feels Overwhelming

You don't have to keep holding everything together on your own.

When people have been coping for a long time, it can become difficult to recognise just how much they are carrying.

Trauma, family pressures, caring responsibilities, relationship difficulties and ongoing stress can affect how we think, feel, communicate and respond to the people around us.

My approach is trauma-informed. That means we don't simply focus on what appears to be going wrong. We also look at what you have experienced, how you have learned to cope and what may be sitting underneath the emotions or behaviours you are experiencing now.

Counselling can provide a space to slow things down, make sense of what has been happening and begin finding ways forward that feel realistic for you.

What To Expect

What is counselling with Trudy like?

You deserve to feel heard before being told what you should do.

My role isn't to judge your decisions or tell you how you should feel. I want to understand what life has been like from your perspective and what you would like to be different.

Together we can explore what is happening, recognise patterns, develop practical strategies and work towards changes that feel achievable rather than overwhelming.

Feel heard Talk openly about what has been happening without feeling judged.
Make sense of things Understand emotions, experiences and patterns that may be difficult to untangle on your own.
Work at your pace Counselling does not need to rush you into conversations or changes you are not ready for.
Build practical strategies Develop realistic ways of managing emotions, relationships and everyday challenges.
“

Counselling can be a place where you finally have the time and space to think about what you need — not just what everybody else needs from you.

There is no expectation that you arrive with all the answers. We can work through things together.

My Approach

Professional experience. Compassionate support.

My counselling approach brings together professional training, extensive experience supporting individuals and families, and an understanding that every person's circumstances are different.

01

Professional Knowledge

My background includes counselling, disability, trauma, child development, parenting and family support.

This allows me to look beyond a single issue and consider the broader picture — the person, their experiences, their relationships and the environment around them.

02

Experience With Families

For more than 14 years I have worked with individuals, parents, carers and families navigating autism, trauma, ADHD and complex family circumstances.

I understand that strategies need to work in real homes, real relationships and real lives — not simply sound good on paper.

Understanding the person behind the behaviour, emotion or difficulty is often where meaningful change begins.
You don't have to wait until everything becomes too much. Support can begin before life reaches crisis point.

Some people come to counselling because something specific has happened and they need support working through it.

Others have been managing stress, caring responsibilities, difficult relationships or emotional challenges for a long time and simply reach a point where they need somewhere to talk.

Counselling can also continue after the immediate difficulty has settled, providing a regular space to reflect, strengthen emotional wellbeing and recognise patterns before they become overwhelming.

Asking for support doesn't mean you have failed to cope. Sometimes it means recognising that you shouldn't have to manage everything alone.
